Mary Louise's Story
After graduating from THS in '57, I went to Southwestern University in Georgetown, TX, 30 miles north of Austin, a small Methodist college with the intention of becoming a Christian Education Director. I took all the required courses for a major in Christian Education and a minor in Philosophy, but sometime in my Sr. year I decided that wasn't what I wanted to do. I graduated with a BA in 1961.
I moved back to Tyler and went to Federal Business Institute learning typing and shorthand. In 1962, I moved to Houston and got a job as Secretary (now called Administrative Assistant) at Humble Oil & Refining Company (where my Dad worked; now called ExxonMobil).
I went to the Singles class at First Methodist Church, downtown Houston, and met and married John P. Gulley Jr. in 1963, and we're still married (47 years Ma...Expand for more

John worked for the YMCA in Houston, and in 1965, took a "Y" job in Kansas City, MO. Our daughter was born there in 1966 and our son in 1969. Neither of them will ever forgive me for not flying to Houston to have them so they could be "Native Texans."
In 1970, we moved back to Houston, and I went back to work for Exxon. I retired from ExxonMobil January 2001, but I was asked to come back and work contract in 2008 and have been here ever since.
I enjoy counted cross stitch (when I could see better), knitting, and genealogy (very basic). I'm really active in my DAR (Daughters of the American Revolution) Chapter.
We have a tiny bungalow in Galveston and recently leased an apartment on the 20th floor of a highrise in mid-town Houston which we love.
That pretty well covers my life since 1957.
